Finding Christ Beyond the Festivities

Dec 9 / Youth SendYouth Team

Every December, we step into a season filled with lights, music, and celebration. Churches overflow. Youth groups organize concerts. Families reunite. The atmosphere feels alive, and for a moment, it seems like everyone is thinking about Jesus. But when the decorations come down, and life returns to its usual pace, many young Christians quietly slip back into old routines. The spiritual fire that burned so brightly during the holidays fades.

Here’s the truth: Christ was never meant to be a seasonal experience. He invites us into a daily walk that outlives every celebration. Finding Him beyond the festivities is where real discipleship begins.

When the Excitement Fades
Holiday seasons create an emotional high. The worship is louder, the gatherings are larger, and the messages feel more inspiring. But emotions are not enough to sustain faith.
Jesus said, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you” (John 15:4, NLT). Remaining means consistency. It means choosing Christ on quiet Monday mornings just as much as on Christmas morning.
Many young people admit they struggle with spiritual consistency after the holiday excitement passes. Between school stress, relationship drama, career pressure, and the constant pull of social media, it becomes easy to drift. But drifting is not destiny. With intentional steps, we can stay rooted in Christ long after the celebrations end.

Start with Small, Daily Rhythms
Spiritual growth is not built on occasional big moments. It grows through simple habits done faithfully. Here are rhythms that help:
• Short daily prayers. Even 5 minutes of honest conversation with God changes your focus.
• One chapter of Scripture a day. Start with the Gospels or Psalms.
• Choose worship over noise. Swap one music playlist or TikTok session for worship or a Bible podcast.
• Reflect before bed. Ask yourself: “Where did I see God today?”
These practices seem small, but they create deep roots. Psalm 1 describes believers as trees planted by rivers—steady, nourished, and fruitful. Those roots grow through daily discipline, not seasonal activity.

Find Strength in Community
Trying to grow spiritually alone is like trying to run a race without shoes. You can try, but you won’t go far.
Young believers thrive when they are surrounded by people who share their hunger for God. A small group, youth fellowship, or Bible study provides support, accountability, and encouragement. Ecclesiastes 4:10 puts it plainly: “If one person falls, the other can reach out and help.”

If your church doesn’t have a small group for youth or young adults, start one. It could be three friends meeting weekly. What matters is consistency and honesty. Communities like this help you walk with Christ long after the celebrations fade.

Live Out Your Faith in Daily Life
Finding Christ beyond the festivities also means following Him in your normal routines. Faith grows when it becomes practical.
At school: show integrity, avoid gossip, and speak with kindness.
• At work: do your tasks well, be respectful, and treat others fairly.
• Online: use your platforms to encourage, not tear down.
• At home: honor your parents, help with responsibilities, be patient with siblings.
Colossians 3:17 says, “Whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus.” When faith shapes your choices, Christ becomes more than a celebration; He becomes your lifestyle.

The Student Who Stayed Consistent
A young man from Kaduna once shared his story with me. After a powerful December youth camp, he promised God he would stay serious with his faith. But by February, school pressure swallowed his time. One night, frustrated, he prayed a simple prayer: “Lord, help me start again.”

He began with 10 minutes of Scripture in the morning, joined a small Bible group on campus, and limited his social media time. Six months later, his spiritual life was stronger than it had ever been. His testimony is simple but real: spiritual growth is possible when you take small steps consistently.

Conclusion: Christ Is Not a Season—He Is the Journey
Jesus doesn’t wait for December to speak to you. He walks with you in every season. The joy of Christmas is beautiful, but the joy of daily discipleship is deeper. When you choose Scripture, prayer, community, and practical obedience, you discover a relationship with Christ that lasts far beyond the festivities.
If you’re ready to grow, start with small steps. Reach out to a mentor. Join a Bible group. Ask God for strength. You’ll be amazed at how your faith expands.
